I decided to write a blog for new students in IT. I have just finished my first semester in my IT Network Specialist classes. Let me tell you it was ruff and I feel that was because I wasn't tech savy. I did study over the summer before my fall semester classes started. What I did was I went to the library and checked out the books that were almost the exact books that were to be used in the classes I was registered to take for fall. The only difference was the edition. Like my computer concepts book. I had the the 2012 Computer Concepts book from the library and the book I needed from the book store was 2013 Computer Concepts. There was really no big difference. I learned most of the codes and acronyms. Like CPU- central processing unit. Then I told myself I must be able to explain what it does, how it works and how to troubleshoot the cpu. Alot for a not so tech savy person. Sad thing is I had no one in my class that was willing to start a study group or help me grasp computer concepts. I knew after a few weeks into the semester I was on my own. I plan to create podcast and video footage so that other new IT students will be able to follow my success. What I will say is being that I am a woman none of the guys were really trying to be helpful they had there own circle of friends. Maybe I wasn't persistent enough. Either way continue to follow my blogs and look for tips that I will have for anyone who needs help in IT. Use Microsoft website help and support. These lnks should be some what helpful for you.

Elementary school massacre: 20 children among 28 killed in Connecticut slaughter

What is wrong in America? I seriously believe this is only the beginning. The beginning of the return of how America use to be. How can someone kill kids like that? This young killer had many issues that were never addressed. It's not safe any more no matter where you are. What should be done about this? How do we protect ourselves from these type of people? Just a month ago a young man in my school stab his girlfriend to death. This is senseless. America needs to wake up and realize we have serious problems that need to be addressed or we will continue to see this type of madness everyday.

Vmware Certification

                 Why I want my certification in Vmware

My instructor wanted me to pick a technology related topic that I am interested in. I was sent a video from the same instructor in my Google g mail. I have been following the new instructor that started at M.A.T.C. I find his IT story to be impelling. I am a first semester IT student. The information provided in this video is so pertinent for new students looking to learn and gather as much information as possible. I solely hope Brian continues to create new videos. I was inspired by his knowledge and how willing he is to share with students.

I actually just completed his class, today. The class I took was IT 110 Windows 7. Along with the CBT Nuggets and Labsims this video helps me put all the concepts I have learned into perspective.

I have always wanted to work with computers. When I had to select my first high school I selected Washington High the school of  Information Technology. When I first came to Milwaukee Area Technical College I enrolled in the IT Computer Support Specialist program. I decided to change that program because it wasn't technical enough for me. I also realized that students in that program starting pay is $13.01. 

I refused to complete two years in college for $13.01 seriously, where they do that at? So, I decided I wanted to know more about Networking and I found myself interested and now I want to be certified in Vmware and Cisco. Network Specialist starting pay is $30.00 bucks an hour. If you get your certification in Vmware starting pay is.... I recommend you watch the video I don't want to spoil it.

As I watched this great presentation by Leslie T. Chang on Ted's talk, I couldn't believe what this young women was saying in her extemporaneous speech. Leslie's  argument was for everyone to see and understand how China's workers view their work and how they are being treated by their own government. Leslie spent over two years in China and during that time she interviewed several young women that work in factories in a city called Dongguan. According to Wikipedia, The city and province have been the recent focus of press and journalist attention with coverage of the arrival of teenaged Chinese workers, principally females (so-called factory girls), from agricultural areas to work in the area's factories and manufacturing/assembly facilities, where many are housed in large dormitories, usually several to a room. The women she interviewed were about 18 to 20 years old. Most of these women make less than a dollar an hour to stitch Nike shoes. Most Americans spend an average $50 to $150 dollars per pair on Nike shoes. According to China labor watch, very few people are aware of how the exploitation of Chinese female factory workers and luxury handbags, like Gucci, are related. Almost no one would believe that a female Chinese worker, Shuiyin Peng, who once helped put together luxury leather handbags, killed herself because of the harsh working conditions she labored under everyday. I was inspired by Leslie's speech. She didn't use much humor and based on the topic I understand why humor wasn't used, but once. She quoted that Karl Marx saw this as the tragedy of capitalism. Most of the women she interviewed had only seventh and eight grade level education. Coach has a new line 2191 and one bag will sell for $6,000 dollars. These women make these bags and we in America buy them. These women come from other parts of China to Dongguan, because Dongguan and a few other industrial cities are where you must
 go to find work for pennies and poor living conditions. My final thoughts, so many in our country take advantage and are not grateful for what we have.

Penfield Children's Center and Miracle on Canal Street use social media as an outlet to help them benefit their programs

Penfield Children’s Center and Miracle on Canal Street are two organizations that use Twitter and Face Book as a social media tool to help them promote their charity programs and receive donations. Penfield Children’s Center is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to help infants and young children with and without disabilities to reach their full potential through education, therapy services and family programs. According to Penfield's website, Since 1967, Penfield has been a place where children with special needs find support, comfort, encouragement and strength. Each year, more than 1,400 children and their families benefit from the comprehensive, quality childhood development and family programs that Penfield provides. Penfield uses Face Book and Pay pal as a way for people to donate to their cause. You can follow Penfield on Twitter. They have over 187 followers.

Miracle on Canal Street is also a non-profit organization that is connected to Potawatomi Bingo Casino. Potawatomi Bingo Casino demonstrates concern for the community in a variety of ways, but it begins with having a significant economic impact on the state and local communities by providing thousands of jobs and being a strong employer. The efforts to strengthen our community begin with the Casino’s signature community program. Miracle on Canal Street brings together team members, guests, business partners and the community for one common goal to help improve the lives of children in southeastern Wisconsin.

The Casino partners with a number of organizations throughout the Milwaukee area to combine efforts for a greater positive impact on people in need. Since it began in 1994, Miracle on Canal Street has contributed more than $11.5 million to hundreds of local children’s charities. Each year funds are generated through Miracle bingo games and other special events. Thirty children's charities from southeastern Wisconsin in 2011 split $989,239. 2012 Miracle on Canal Street Signature Charities includes:

·         Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin

·         Betty Brinn Children’s Museum

·         Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin

·         Penfield Children’s Center

Addition to these charities there are many more that Miracle on Canal Street helps donate monies to. These two organizations manage their relationships together to help the less fortunate children of Wisconsin. They use strategies by allowing people to share a link on Twitter to their followers. They use Facebook to upload photos of events to showcase children who benefit from their program. They have other sponsors on their pages they connect with as well.
